The Power Distribution Unit, PDU for short, are typically used for server racks but has also expanded into other fields. The most notable of these fields is Crypto Mining. The PDU has a few cool functions. PDUs come in many forms but we want to focus on the models that have a built-in meter.

  • Sometimes these are just simple meters that show amps and volts while other models additionally will show you the kilowatts.
  • Operates on 110v – 250v but can offer different types of NEMA and IEC plugs. Such as the NEMA 5-15R and 5-20R.
  • Some PDUs offer a mix of IEC-320-C13 and IEC-320-C19 outlets or a mix of IEC-320-C14 and IEC-320-C20. (In the case of these plugs the odd-numbered plugs indicate an outlet and the even-numbered plugs indicate an inlet. These are also commonly referred to by the last 3 digits of the plug type.)
  • Some Models have a built-in breaker.
  • Some models have all the bells and whistles and will have a mix of plug adaptors, a built-in meter that shows amps, volts, and kilowatts, a built-in breaker, and even additional data port plugs.
