Wireless speakers are great for streaming your fav music, audiobooks, or podcasts. Using Bluetooth or wifi technology makes this possible.
With Wifi you can have multiple speakers throughout your home and take the jams to any room as you clean, hang with friends or have ambient music playing softly during a dinner party. You will need to set up each speaker individually but once your network of speakers is set up you shouldn’t have to reconnect every single time. These speakers will need to be powered in some manner, usually an AC adapter or batteries, (rechargeable or otherwise) or with a USB cable. Many manufacturers are going the way of USB-C cables to power their devices. Accessibility to USB should be considered when deciding on which speaker you are going to buy.
It should be noted that some larger homes may require a wifi mesh extension which amplifies the range of your wifi network. We have our Tek Researchers gathering info on this and will have an article about wifi mesh extensions in the near future.
But for now, let’s take a look at wireless Bluetooth speakers. These speakers can connect to a smartphone, PC, laptop, or tablet. Some apps can be downloaded that will allow you to control each speaker. Like their wifi counterparts, Bluetooth speakers will require some form of a power supply either batteries, an AC power adapter, or a USB cable. Many of these speakers also offer long play times with some speakers like the JBL FLIP 5 Waterproof Portable Bluetooth Speaker offering a 12-hour battery life.
We have our Tek Researchers reviewing and comparing a wide selection of speakers. We hope to have all that data in the hands of our Content Creators soon. You can help both our Tek Researchers and Content Creators with your feedback. If you have any type of wireless speaker and would like to share your experiences you can submit feedback through the form at the bottom of the page. We do have a couple of articles started on the types of wireless speakers that we would like to complete, again with your help. You can find them here:
